cGt2099 over at the Mixxing Bowl wrote an excellent blog post about being a proactive Mixxer. He gives great tips about how to bring your best to the community as well as how to help Mixx grow into an even more vibrant place.

Thank you so much, cGt2099 and as always, you ROCK!

‘Pushers’ pushing people on a crowded Japanese train

Hand picked by Kerry on August 29th, 2008

As I wrote in the comments, HOW are there not hundreds of people crushed each day on these trains?

Thanks, calinazaret! Great find.

Human Exoskeleton Suit Helps Paralyzed Man Walk Again

Hand picked by Raghu on August 26th, 2008

This is a pretty good civilian use of an exoskeleton.

If you look at all the science fiction stories, it is amazing that the gadgets they describe become reality in the future.

Is it that science fiction authors come up with ideas that scientists and researchers like and develop or the scientists come up with ideas that the science fiction authors use?

Thank you, y2000, for sharing this with the Mixx community.

Beijing 2008 - It’s a wrap

Hand picked by Kori on August 25th, 2008

There were almost too many memorable moments to count during this year’s Olympic Games, but the Boston Globe managed to capture some of the most exciting and emotional images from Beijing. Take a look back on all the guts and the glory in their moving picture montage.

Thank you for the great submission, Maing. This will certainly be an Olympics to remember!

Mr. Obama’s Task

Hand picked by Jeremy on August 25th, 2008

After nearly two years of posturing, positioning, and platitudes, finally the 2008 campaign begins! The New York Times gets in front of this week’s Democratic National Convention with a valuable primer on what we’ll see, and what we should REALLY be looking for, from Barack Obama and the Dems in Denver. Added bonus: Columnist Paul Krugman looks forward to the Obama campaign getting into the “politics of personal destruction.” Why? Because “many Democrats have had the sick feeling that once again their candidate brought a knife to a gunfight.” Saddle up, America.

Great post, VioletPlanet.

The Guinea Pig Olympics

Hand picked by Mike on August 25th, 2008

Just when I thought I’d burned out on the Olympics, the Guinea Pig Games come along and renew my interest.

Thanks to tropoli for posting!

This is one of the most interesting and moving finds I’ve ever seen on the web, and I wouldn’t have known about it if not for Mixx.

Thanks so much, cactushair.

Everyone’s talking about the fastest man in the world from Jamaica …

Star Trek warp drive is a possibility, say scientists

Hand picked by Chris on August 19th, 2008

I am not exactly a “Trekkie” but this story definitely caught my eye! I have two questions:

1. If you had access to warp drive, where would you go?

2. Do you really think the dilithium crystals can take it?

Good stuff, SilentJay74!

UPDATE: Turns out we had two versions of this story in our database, due to a bug :-(
We’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that s_lockyer also submitted the Telegraph story 2 days earlier.
